When we see photos of celebrities looking their best, we tend to get a bit jealous of their amazing physique. It’s no surprise that some of the most famous people in the world keep trim bodies for the public eye, but they don’t use the same tried and true methods of losing weight like the rest of us. Instead, some celebs venture on amore untraveled route, and attempt crazy dieting techniques that were suggested to them.
Some of these diets sound ridiculous, and like they would have no chance of working, but eerily enough the results speak for themselves. The diets aren’t all the same either, some include eating only a single unusual item over and over again, while others don’t allow these celebs to eat at all. It seems like if a diet suggested cannibalism, at least one cooky celeb would try and become the next Hannibal Lecter.
You certainly shouldn’t try an extreme diet without consulting a doctor, because a lot of them are as far from healthy as imaginable. Cutting calories and exercise will work just fine for you, but many people don’t want to put in the heavy amounts of time and effort involved. Here are the 10 craziest diets that break away from the norm, and the 10 celebrities that stand by them; some aren’t looking for weight loss, they just have some odd eating habits.
Tea & Water, Gwyneth Paltrow
Gwyneth Paltrow has tried a lot of different eating styles, she even runs a website displaying her health and eating habits for the entire world to see. Recently Paltrow tried a diet in protest of welfare benefits being cut by trying to survive off of a very limited amount of money, but only lasted three days before giving up. By limiting herself, she made a powerful statement about the necessity of nutrition, and the support of the lower class.
Each year a lot of people make resolutions to lose weight, but Paltrow doesn’t really need to. Regardless of her great physique, she starts each year by doing the same weight loss stretch for an entire week; Paltrow barely touches any food, and drinks tea and water almost exclusively in an effort to detox her body. Paltrow’s diet isn’t healthy, but it doesn’t look like it has hurt her either.
The Purple Diet, Mariah Carey
Mariah Carey may be the best selling female artist of all time, but even she has had her struggle with weight. Now that she is getting older it can be hard to maintain that good looking physique that is expected of celebs, and people seem to always be discussing celebrity weight. Carey has been able to stay in form by sticking to what she called the “Purple Diet.”
For three days each week, Carey allows herself to only eat things that are purple, such as grapes or eggplant; there are a lot of healthy purple foods, but it isn’t a very balanced and complete diet. Sustaining a healthy diet of only purple foods is nearly impossible, but it works for her. If I was on this diet I’d end up coloring my ice cream purple and pigging out.
Water With Pepper Or Syrup, Beyonce
One day Beyonce might overtake Mariah Carey as the most popular female artist of all time, but for now she has to take a back seat. Beyonce is known for her killer curves, and songs like “Bootylicious” tell us that she knows it. Like Carey, Beyonce is being watched all the time to see if she will slip up in her weight, but she stays slim with a cleanse diet.
Beyonce used this type of diet to get her role in the movie “Dreamgirls,” and it sounds brutal to even try for a single day. Beyonce drinks glasses of water with pepper or syrup for two weeks, and nothing else. If you enjoy solid foods, you might want to stay far, far away from this one; going to that extent to be a “dream girl” just isn’t worth it.
Cheesecake, Stephen King
Stephen King is one of the most notable authors to ever live and has been on the best sellers list numerous times, with more than 300 million books sold during his lifetime; no other author has had more of their work adapted into films than Stephen King, and it’s because he is the master storyteller for horror. But who knew the most horrifying thing about King was his dietary habits?
In order to get into the right mindset to write his next great thriller, King has said that he sits down and has a single slice of cheesecake before he gets the typewriter going. It’s not exactly healthy to eat it every single day, but King has been looking fairly trim throughout his entire career. Being skinny and eating large amounts of cheesecake certainly sounds like a fiction to me, but maybe King as finally discovered the miracle diet we have all been looking for.
Ice Cubes, Renee Zellweger
Renee Zellweger is a critically acclaimed actress that has won multiple awards during her career, and some of her most notable roles have come at the expense of a dramatic change in her weight. For her role in “Bridget Jones’s Diary,” Zellweger had to constantly stuff herself with junk food in order to put on about 40 pounds.
When the filming was over, Zellweger knew she needed to slim down, and fast; to do that, Zellweger threw caution to the wind by eating nothing but ice cubes: that’s right, nothing but frozen water! Obviously water doesn’t have any nutritional value, and it certainly doesn’t make a meal, so we’d recommend steering clear of this before you get put on ice yourself.
Carrots, Steve Jobs
Steve Jobs is the late innovator that was responsible for the rise of Apple, introducing us to the iPod, iPhone, iPad, and many other products that millions use around the world. Jobs also had his quirks, and his largest one was his diet! Jobs would go through periods of eating nothing but the same food seemingly without end.
One of the foods that Jobs over-indulged on was the nutritious carrot; it has a lot of vitamins and nutrients, but not enough to keep you feeling energetic for very long. Jobs said that he didn’t have to bathe as much because the carrots eliminated odor, and his skin even started to turn a bit orange. I’d suggest eating something a bit more than carrots, or else you might find yourself saying “what’s up, Doc” sooner rather than later.
Fried Chicken, Hugh Hefner
The founder of Playboy is nearing the age of 90 years old, and there are a lot of things that assist in keeping him young: the way that he eats, though, is probably not one of them. While in any room of the Playboy Mansion, Hefner has a team of chefs he can call upon via touch screen.
Hefner enjoys soul food (like fried chicken), and will even have it delivered to his bed. Hefner doesn’t like to look at his food while he eats, so it must be put into the same spot on the plate each time. Hefner is so particular in his eating habits that he doesn’t eat on the road; food from the Playboy Mansion is brought on his jets with him: That and his Playboy Bunnies of course.
Apple Cider Vinegar, Fergie
We were introduced to Fergie as a member of the Black Eyed Peas, but she has been able to turn that into a successful solo career with some acting credits thrown in along the way. Fergie has a famously curvy body that was immortalized thanks to the Black Eyed Peas song “My Humps.”
Fergie doesn’t have the most dangerous diet plan on this list, but she does credit one weird thing as the secret to keeping her trim; Fergie downs two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar on a daily basis. A lot of people swear by apple cider vinegar, but nobody seems to be quite sure what it does for the body exactly; oh well, an apple a day keeps the doctor away.
Seafood & Poultry, Nicolas Cage
Nicolas Cage has some very eccentric movie roles to his name, and seeing him in interviews gives you the impression that although he’s a nice guy, he does seem a bit odd at times. Cage has become a cult favorite thanks to his over the top performances, but nothing is more over the top than his dieting practices.
Seafood and poultry are pretty much the only meats that Cage eats, and he says it’s because they mate in a dignified way. Apparently cows and pigs don’t make love fancily enough to entice Cage’s palate. There are even only certain types of fish that Cage will eat, but we’re not exactly sure how they do the dirty.
Carrots, Tomatoes & Fish, Petra Nemcova
Petra Nemcova is a model and television host from the Czech Republic. When you make a career in modeling maintaining the perfect body is nearly essential, but can be tough once you start to hit the other side of 30 years old. Nemcova has been able to battle weight gain and maintain her long career by using a particularly strange diet.
Nemcova swears that she only eats a handful of foods, and they basically include what you would find in a salad: carrots, tomatoes, and fish; at one point Nemcova had so much Vitamin A in her body that her hands started to turn another color. If your skin starts to change color, you might want to go back to eating regularly.
